Heather Wilhelm - At Large

As a young adult, I pursued a career in Art Restoration. After graduating from Carnegie Mellon University, I moved to Dallas, Tx and worked for 6 years restoring paintings for a private art conservation company. During that time, I was also cross-trained into other disciplines. When I returned to Pittsburgh, I started my own business and worked exclusively on the restoration of glass and crystal.

After I got married and had kids, I decided to close my business and focus my attention on the needs of my family.

We have lived in the district for 15 years. Our oldest graduated in 2022 and we still have 2 kids in school. Over the years, I've put in a lot of volunteer time at the district. I ran the 5th grade Science Fair for 3 consecutive years, headed the Health and Safety committee, planned Red Ribbon Week and was co-chair for the Veteran’s Day Celebration. In 2019, I organized the RESN Summer Robotics Camp. I also secured the EQT grant that funded the camp. All of my kids have played sports so I am familiar with the athletic culture, the need for parent participation, the Boosters programs and fundraising efforts.  As an informed and concerned parent, I follow trends in education and research curriculum. I attend school board meetings regularly and am on the 2023 steering committee.

I also have a vested interest to see that Parental Rights are protected and transparency is being upheld throughout the district. To that end, I am one of the co-founders of the Washington County Chapter of Moms for Liberty.

Years ago, I homeschooled my kids for 4 years and understand the educational options that are available to parents. Furthermore, I am sensitive to the changing needs of families and understand why some choose public school all the time, sometimes or not at all. Many families have chosen to pull their kids out of public school all together for reasons like masking, educational standards and curriculum content. Many families would have stayed in the district or might return if not for some of the decisions made by the school board. I want to be a decision maker.

The needs of the district are many but I feel that academics are paramount. The main job of any school is to educate. Ringgold's reading and math scores are dismal and change is needed. I want to be a part of that change.
